Yes, the subject line does not lie. Last night I posted the Prologue to Beg, Borrow, or Steal which is a sequel to Gypsies, Tramps, and Thieves.. It's on AO3, but I guess I'll post it here too. It's finished and undergoing beta and I'll post chunks as I get them revised or on Fridays if I have a buffer. It's about 60,000 words of crossover with SG-1, NCIS and NCIS: LA (and owes a lot to some of my favorite fics and a little to my desire to either slap certain characters or better yet the writers).
At the same time, I'm actively writing the third sequel, Lawyers, Guns, and Money..
Summary: Atlantis and Earth could help each other, if politics, plots and murder don't get in the way. But Leroy Jethro Gibbs might blow everything out of the water.

This was supposed to be a timestamp snippet for aella_irene. It got away from me to the tune of over five thousand words. As these things do. Not beta-ed, no real plot, just lots of things blowing up.

aella_irene, dragos, I haven't forgotten you. The snippets just keep getting longer and longer. Yours are going to kind of break the spirit of 'snippet'. Hi, I'm Auburn. In person, you may mistake me for a mute. Give me a keyboard and I can't shut up.

Meant to post this here too, and then couldn't log in the night question and forgot.

Embrace the randomness!
Thing 1: Well, it's a good thing I already established that Teyla likes women or this latest turn of events wouldn't make a lick of sense. This story continues to confound me. Though this development is the sort where I think 'I wish the show had gone there'. Because on a completely cynical note, you know TPTB think guys are science fiction tv's only viewers and most guys would tune in for a girl on girl seduction scene. Even if Wright and Mallozi are sort of stupid douches, they wouldn't have cancelled SGA if the ratings had been high, no matter what they were smoking when they thought up SGpeeeU.
Thing 2: I know I had some parchment paper somewhere, but I can't find it and it's irritating. As soon as I buy more, the old paper will show up.
Thing 3: There is no 3, because I think prime numbers are very hostile. (I memorized my multiplication tables by imagining all the numbers had personalities. 5s are all sluts, btw.)
Thing 4: Look at that icon. Isn't Original Uhura gorgeous?
Thing 5: The reason for this post, to the extent there is a reason. I've got a paid account, I can do polls. I have this feeling that I don't see or identify hair colors on TV and in movies the way most people are. I keep reading stuff and going, bwuh? Blond, you're really calling that blond? The funny thing is I don't have this reaction to other color descriptions. Maybe it's just I'm very picky about color because I always think about how I'd mix up a paint to get that color and want to describe in those terms.
Thing 6: I love writing fanfic. Because when I write fanfic I am freed from even the shadow of a ghost of wondering whether what I'm doing is commercial. I'm doing it for me, not for even a potential (dream) sale. There's no worry over whether its publishable or anything but pleasing myself. I love the short cuts it offers me. I love the way what I'm doing is a reflection and a meditation on the original material and all the other fanfic on it.
Thing 7: Dear Dog, but it's a mistake to watch some movies years after they were made. You may have loved them then, but now you realize that the dialogue is more hackneyed than a cab and the actors are talking like they have all of New Joisey wedged in their mouths and those side burns could double as bell bottoms.
Thing 8: I wanna tranquilizer gun. Or a raygun. Or that chocolate wifey mentioned. Speaking of wifey, the last tea you sent me is very WTF? Red, red, red. I expected the cat to try to take it away from me.
Thing 9: 1780 words today. Not bad. I might manage another five hundred or so if I can get past obsessing over Sora's hair. This entry was originally posted at http://auburn.dreamwidth.org/245612.html. where there are comments. Comments are enabled on all cross posted journals.

If any of you think John Sheppard canon version is irritatingly emotionally repressed and difficult to write, you should take a stab at Jehan abd-Ba'al. I thought I'd indulge myself by writing the big reveal scene out of sequence. Except he won't reveal anything. Mutes and mimes are both loquacious compared Jehan. He just wants to glare at Sam. Or curse in Goa'uld. Which makes me want to curse in frustration. He won't talk when he's mad, he won't talk when he's afraid, he won't even talk when he's happy! Bastard. I'd like to wring that pretty, fictional neck.
On a more pleasant note, re writing the epic au of doom, some of the scenes I'd outlined as separate are collapsing into each other.
And my feet are warm. Still loving my boots to a really unhealthy degree, and telling everyone, to the point they're starting to tell me, if you like them that much you should go buy an identical pair while the style's still available. Which I probably should. Because they have cured my heel pain, too. Maybe if I get all the bills paid next month and have anything left over.
Apropos only of reading some Reboot fic and the common trope of McCoy calling Spock a green-blood hobgoblin, wouldn't Vulcan blood be blue if it's a using copper-based hemacyanin? (Or haemocyanin, if you prefer non US English spellings.) Also, it wouldn't it have been madly neat if the Wraith in SGA had had blue blood instead of red, considering they were supposed to be part alien arthropod-equivalent? Beckett could have discovered it and then there would have been more media meta with Sheppard saying, 'Oh, like Spock in Star Trek?' and Rodney bringing up the whole copper-based oxygen transport should have been blue issue. Unless Vulcans were really plants and were photosynthetic and had chlorophyll in the blood. Or at least a magnesium-based blood equivalent.

|the next part of gt&t outlined and...
|gt&t, woe!, writing|
part six was supposed to be the last part, but just three days needs 68 -- 68 -- scenes.
My scenes tend to average 1800 words or so.
Do the math. 122400 words.
No. Just no way. Not for three days of action. Obviously this will be the section where I discover the secret key to writing efficiently.
There's no way I'll get that written and all the rest that I'd planned to put into part six. Part six just might be it, though.

The newest part of Gypsies, Tramps, and Thieves is posted on my Dreamwidth journal (all in one go!):
GT&T Part Five.
Beware the cliffhanger of authorial evil!
Finished the proverbial shitty first draft! It's kind of short (by my standards), but that's mostly because originally all of this was going to be in part 4.
Sent off to dossier to look over.
Need one more beta to check it out. Anyone want to volunteer? See above 'shitty first draft'. It's raw. I mean really rough. I spell checked it. Once.
After this, there's just part six to write. It's only about an novel's worth of stuff all by itself. But I'm finishing this before the year is up. I want to work on my original novel, maybe write some outtakes, before throwing myself into the fires of Big Bang hell again.
Also, I am not allowed to write any sort of Star Trek fiction until I finish my SGA stuff.

I will continue subjecting you all to my learning process with GIMP and the stylus.
Yes, I got lazy at the end and didn't do any detail work on her jacket. Clothes and shadows can be hard, but I was concentrating on skin tones today.
Amused note to dossier
: I downloaded a metric butt ton of brushes and then didn't use almost any of them.

Still no new words on anything.
Progress on stuff I can do with the graphics tablet though. I spent the weekend watching football and fooling with this.

Four thousand words on GT&T! I have the Satedan mutiny to write now and I have decided, with the backing of a poll I offered a while back: Melena will live.
Has the entire SGA fandom gone eerily silent in the last few days or is it just me? Is everyone busy writing?

Though, man, I have to include a scene with John riding and posting, because, mmm, the thighs.
Err, anyway. I'm about a half month behind on finishing up the third part of Gypsies, Tramps, and Thieves, but I'm almost there. Just two more big action scenes for Sam, et al. Then I'll dump it on a beta or two and start on the Big Bang story.
