It's nearly four in the morning and I have a thirteen page longhand outline for a giant gen fic set post CACW the wifey are and I are going to write together.

You know, at the same time I finish the original novel and wifey finishes her giant Cap One threesome fic.

Up front, I'm biased. She's my wifey and I beta-ed this. It's like I'm its godmother.

[personal profile] eretria  has finished and posted a complete version of her Captain America: The Winter Soldier fic.

But it's good, okay, objectively, it's a damn good story about Steve Rogers going from the naive kid who thought going to war was something anyone sane would want to do to a deeply decent leader of men, along with being a painful period love story, and a tale of war and life in the military. If you don't want to cry for Bucky Barnes and Steve Rogers by the end of reading it, you've had your tear ducts removed. I don't want to give away too much, but I have to warn for the fact, she wrote it for me and delved into all the painful aspects a lot of fic glosses over (because that stuff pleases my sadistic soul), but none of it is gratuitous.

If you read or mean to read, do heed the warnings and tags. If you read it, hold onto this, at the end, there is hope, like the first visible star of the evening.

She's been posting a chapter every other day and the whole thing is now up.

Oh, wow, and I almost forgot to say: there are some seriously steamy scenes between Bucky and Steve. [personal profile] eretria  does not cheat, though she doesn't include anything the story doesn't need.

And for those wondering about Peggy the Wonder Pup, she's got the terrible teenager twos going on, and a vet appointment tomorrow. Her wrestling nom de plume would definitely be The Wrecker, and she's hilarious. It's impossible to stay mad at a dog, who every time she's told 'bad dog' in anything approaching seriousness, immediately spins and bites her tail. She clearly thinks she can convince me it was all the tail's fault, the tail's idea, and only the tail did it. I might even fall for it, if she didn't do it around my leg. And the tail isn't the one pulling the desk drawer open to steal dog treats or the one who snagged the leftover Thanksgiving turkey off the counter and stole a mouse from my cat. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if she starts opening the refrigerator next.

She's a great dog.

Yup, that's it. All of Thawed Out has been posted to AO3. 19 of 19, over 150,000 words. I actually spent most of last year working this story with [personal profile] eretria .  It was lovely while it lasted.

I'm kind of glad I've already started on the abominable thing, because otherwise I'd feel at terrible loose ends.

[personal profile] murron  was able to finish the second beta for Thawed Out and uploaded it earlier today. Not that I didn't already adore her for her hard work, but I'm still grinning over her comment about Chekov's lube.

On the subject of writing, so far so good on the thing I started at the first of the year. As long as I pretend it's fanfic, I seem to be able to bypass the horrible self doubts about what I'm writing. I'm not a set word count every day, but I am sticking to one rule: open it up and write one sentence somewhere in it, every day. Never mind the snowflake method, I think of it as the stalactite method. And since I am prolix in prose, it almost always ends up with a few paragraphs at least.

And to a couple of sweethearts who sent me cards, thank you, and there's no way you'll get return cards before Christmas, but I super appreciated being remembered. I'm not such an asshole I wouldn't send a card back, but I only got them yesterday.

In the spirit of OMG we want to post it already, dammit, [personal profile] eretria  and I have the first two chapters of a giant-sized Captain America: the Winter Soldier and Avengers fic finished. I mean, we have the whole thing finished, we're just going to post chunks as it gets through beta. They're big chapters. We hope to get more up every couple of days. I'm about to do a last proof check on three. To repeat: the whole thing is done, just not completely beta-ed. It'll be more like posting in progress, not a work in progress.

Everybody loves Bucky, right?

I'll have a post up tomorrow with relevant links and screened comments for anyone who wants an in-depth reply about any possible triggers or warnings that aren't up at AO3.

It's long, of course. We've been working on it since May, I swear, and I had a small nervous breakdown somewhere along the way, so we're kind of proud it got finished at all. Anyway, it's written with[personal profile] eretria , so *whispers* there's a happy ending. 2446 words today and I finished the action scene. Not quite as I'd envisioned, but that's because the characters finally woke up and did things their way.

Two scenes to go.

Good God, I'll have the rough draft done by the deadline.

I deserve a puppy.

I still kind of hate the story, but not as much as a week ago. I finally having the finishing momentum, something I usually get in the last fourth, not the penultimate scene.

I hate this story. I hate it, I hate writing it, I hate that I cannot get it to end, I hate that I am still working on it rather than anything I want to write, I hate it, hate it, hate it. Why, why, why can't I finish this stupid goddamn story?

And when (if) I get the monstrous bastard creature done, I'll still have to get it beta-ed and do a second draft before I can post (bury) it. With an iron stake through its breast and the very earth salted and doused with DDT.

It may be that the pain has faded in memory, but I cannot remember so strongly loathing working on any story before.

X-Men fic is cursed for me. The Thing That Should Not Be is also X-Men fic. Never again. Even if I never write again otherwise, never again.

Though it would probably be worse to be in the middle of a Teen Wolf fic after last night's episode. Burn in hell, writers and anyone else responsible for that. May you end up unemployed and with erectile dysfunction.

Shocking as it is, I have finished fic. All AU all the time AUburn, that's me.

Making a the first pass at my first beta's work on the Big Bang story and, oooops, there's a minor walk-on character who changed sex in the same scene. Glad I caught that. Decided to leave the character female even if does throw the dynamic of Kate walking away with her like they're a couple off. I sort of like the idea of it as a throw away thing, not commented on, just that Peter would see them that way and not think anything of it.

And the indulgent crossover fic that I've been working on for ages has evolved into a fifth draft that I think is the final one. Yep. It's done, really done, (I'm just having a hard time letting go. I want to send the guys on cases now. Fringe Division investigates the oddities in Haven, for instance.) Err. I had a thing I was going to bring up.

Which was, shall I post ID this weekend or wait for my birthday? Does any one care? About the fic, not my birthday, even I don't give a damn about that. (I lie, I want feedback for my birthday.)

If you're viewing this on LJ or IJ (since I'm crossposting), maybe think of hopping over to Dreamwidth and throwing in your two cents?

I have a little gen story I did for a zine last year that's timed out. Should I post it here? I'm iffy on it, because I kind of want comments, but if there aren't many then I'm going feel down, and then I may not feel like answering them, but maybe some feedback would kick start the writing engine. I'd like to finish the story I was working on before. I'd like to write something else. I'd like to get out of my head.

There is not enough The Fast and the Furious fic out there. I'm going to have to start rereading. And there is no Takers fic at all. In the name of slash, how is this possible? Idris Elba and Paul Walker and Zoe Saldana and Michael Ealy and Matt Dillon, and, okay, I think Chris Brown is a trainwreck waiting to happen to any woman he gets involved with, but still, why is there no fic? I could consume metric butt-tons of Gordon and John Rahway fic.

Fandom and the internet have failed me on that front.

Also, owww. I used to read in bed all the time. All the damn time. Now it makes my back hurt like hell. WTF universe, WTF?

Promo ads for Sunday night football on NBC: proven to provoke me to tears now. Also everything geared to upcoming Father's Day. I expect tomorrow to be worse. I have a family phone call I should return. I tried earlier and missed my cousin and now I don't have the will to try again. I feel like if I do I'll have to throw up. I sort of feel that way as it is, but I'm a bad relative to not call. Why doesn't she have email? I'd email. Email is easier than talking.

McShep Match's Masterlist is out, so it's time to mention that I participated for the first year this time.

Since I signed up for Team Play, I tried to avoid my usual mega dose of angst (though it's there, if you shine an ultra violet light on it), and wrote:

Sheppard's Pie

I believe one person guessed I wrote it, but then changed her mind.

The Atlantis Big Bang has been beta-ed at this point by four different people. I think I'll let it sit a day and read it through. It's running about 165,685 words. It's definitely not everyone's cup of tea, but I think it works. From the preliminary sketches the artists involved have shared with me, I can say I think the art will be spectacular.

Meanwhile, I wish more people were writing for the [livejournal.com profile] sga_kinkmeme. There are some great prompts over there. Also some great fills already too.

I am very, very behind where I should be because I haven't been writing, damn it. But this isn't too bad for three days actual work. This year's projected word count goal is sane at least.

4433 / 51000 words. 9% done!

Utterly strange and saddening, despite my long time dislike of what I thought about the man's private life, to hear that Michael Jackson was dead and Farrah Fawcett too. I'm beset on all sides by reminders of mortality of late and I don't appreciate being smacked in the face with it (like a big, stinking wet fish) every day.

I was feeling sort of good about writing after days of being too busy to even open the laptop and now I'm down again.

Thriller was the only thing I have by Michael Jackson, but I think I better stick on something a little more heartening to listen. Jeez.

Time to go read another SPN Big Bang story.Apocalypses always make me feel better.

Though I do wonder what the hell is happening with the zine story. Should check the editing schedule they sent me. But I'm lazy and consigning it to the 'don't care' column.

Meanwhile, I wrote one scene, my prologue, for the novel yesterday. I need to buckle down and work on today's chapter beyond that first paragraph.

In case anyone wondered, I wrote The True Story of When They Went A-Wandering for sga_santa this year. [info]ceitie was my recipient and seemed satisfied with it. It's borderline crack humor. Team Sheppard does a Pegaus Gap year week in an effort observe more local traditions. Things go wacky pretty much immediately.

Personal notes: I can't credit all my betas, because I can't remember them all, but it's a safe bet to say eretria was subjected to multiple drafts and I know murron did stellar work and sent me music and a great illo I can't find now, which makes me sad. There were others. volari and [info]enname. God if I've forgotten someone, it's because it's been a crappy few days in which the highlight of my day has been the cat puking on the floor instead of the bed. The highlight, I tell you.

I remember I finished the first draft some time before The Return I aired, so canon has washed this into an alternate reality, but with quantum mirrors, this happened in some other Stargate universe.
