Merry Christmas, all of you! Or Happy Chinese Food Dinner Day for the non-Christians enduring the madness.

If you're looking for them, I ate all the crab cakes and I'm not sorry.

tagschristmas, christmas wishlist, things i won't get for myself, wishlist, wishlist meme

I don't think I've ever had it together enough to post a wishlist before Christmas. Or I was embarrassed to some years, when money was super tight and I was running in the negative spoons when it came to doing things like art or fic. This year I was reminded and I'm doing it.

So, I'm going paraphrase (and even copy word for word) from [dreamwidth.org profile] settiai since her post explained so well.

How It Works:

Post to your blog with a list of ten things you want to receive for the holidays. They can be anything, from a personalized DW/LJ icon or drabble to a Maine Coon kitten - as long as all the items on the list are things that you genuinely want.

If there's anything on your list that needs to come to you through the mail, make your shipping address available, but please be safe about it and don't post that part publicly - just specify how people should go about getting it. (ETA: I'm going to stick mine under the cut, because I'll be moving after the new year so I'm not too worried about sharing it here.)

Next:

Look around your circle/dashboard/friends list for others who have posted the meme. (The more who do, the better this works, so encourage them!) If you see a wish you can grant, GO FOR IT. You might find a little thing you can do for free that will make someone happy, or you might just discover that a stranger is longing for the exact boxed set of DVDs that you no longer want.

Don't spend money unless you want to, and don't commit to more than you can handle without stressing yourself. There are no rules to this project, no guarantees, and no strings attached. If someone surprises you with a gift certificate to the restaurant you never thought you'd get to go to, don't feel guilty or obliged to return the favor. The point is to spread around a lot of opportunities to grant wishes - use them as you see fit, and remember that your list gives those opportunities to others!

Tips:

Dream big, but stay practical. If you really want the Mercedes, put the Mercedes on the list, but don't forget that you also really want some feedback on the story you wrote - so put that on the list too. It's fun to imagine something huge happening through this meme, but we all recognize the unlikelihood of it so make sure our friends still have a chance to do something thoughtful that's within their means.

Put limits on yourself for what, but not who: if you've decided that you can spend a few hours drawing a picture, but none of your friends are asking for one, keep looking for wishlists - you might even make a new friend or two! Ask people to link their lists for you, and don't be afraid to post your own in a few places.

Let's make some wishes come true this year!

And now, the list, under the cut:

tagschristmas, fic, holidays

Happy, merry, drunk or drugged holidays to everyone who celebrates or wishes to hell it was all over for another year.

And to a couple of sweethearts who sent me cards, thank you, and there's no way you'll get return cards before Christmas, but I super appreciated being remembered. I'm not such an asshole I wouldn't send a card back, but I only got them yesterday.

In the spirit of OMG we want to post it already, dammit, [personal profile] eretria  and I have the first two chapters of a giant-sized Captain America: the Winter Soldier and Avengers fic finished. I mean, we have the whole thing finished, we're just going to post chunks as it gets through beta. They're big chapters. We hope to get more up every couple of days. I'm about to do a last proof check on three. To repeat: the whole thing is done, just not completely beta-ed. It'll be more like posting in progress, not a work in progress.

Everybody loves Bucky, right?

I'll have a post up tomorrow with relevant links and screened comments for anyone who wants an in-depth reply about any possible triggers or warnings that aren't up at AO3.

It's long, of course. We've been working on it since May, I swear, and I had a small nervous breakdown somewhere along the way, so we're kind of proud it got finished at all. Anyway, it's written with[personal profile] eretria , so *whispers* there's a happy ending. I still remain amazed that FedEx now delivers to my gate. My gate, not the one out at the highway with the mailboxes. (Hell, I still experience a certain amount of glee over having a mailbox associated with my physical address rather than one miles and miles away on the other side of the creek.)

[personal profile] sian1359, you shouldn't have! But what a delightful treat you sent me and it arrived about the time I was considering making lunch - so we tore into the basket and are enjoying cinnamon rolls right now.

Nothing more popular in this house, you see.

Thank you again for the surprise prezzie!

tagschristmas, d'oh, insomnia, sga, spammage, writing, yuletide

Judas Doesn't Answer won a McShe p award for Dark fic. Which it is. I always think that story suffers from many people not liking that John is ambiguous in it. Maybe he's really a bad guy, maybe he's the guy we think we know with a few more secrets, stuck between a rock and a hard place. I wanted readers to be free to make up their own minds, but most of them took the end message to mean the former. I still love it though, for the whiptails and finding a reason for War and Peace.

Anyway, thank you to everyone who read and voted for it. I'm a happy writer right now, with my sga santa story completed and submitted, my Yuletide off to a beta reader (that I've never worked with before!) after dossier said it was okay.  The plot, that is.

I'm trying to find the entry into the next scene on Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves. I know what the scene has to have, but I've run into a problem: Jehan and Vala are far to paranoid not to be expecting an attack, and too good to be overpowered, so how the hell does Kel take over the bridge? Arggh.  Also wondering if atmosphere will vent from a hull breach while the ship is hyperspace. The ship must be in some kind of field that allows it to exist in four dimensions while travelling through the higher ones, so maybe that would also hold in atmosphere? Would atmosphere be drawn out into hyperspace the way it is into vacuum anyway?

Not getting more than an hour's unbroken sleep in the last two days is making me cranky and slow-minded. My inner snark monster is rattling the bars of its cage.

I got the the PO, though! Packages are off, freaking customs labels and all. Am now broke for Christmas.
