What makes a person special? Who decides what is and what isn't special? What one person deems special, others deem unimportant. Some people stand out for the things they achieve in their lives. Some are noticed for their beauty. Some have special talents. Others are special in that they don't stand out at all. Who are worthy of being collected and who are not?
The Collection is an Anime PanFandom sandbox RPG. Characters from all anime fandoms have been gathered together to form the ultimate collection on an Island that is all their own and one they cannot escape from.
No one really knows how they managed to get to the Island. More importantly, no one knows why they were brought there in the first place. Upon their arrival, each character wakes in a room of their own within the city, a collection of their belongings with them, and what appears to be a travel brochure for the Island. Is this a virtual world? Or the real world? There are no logout menus. No life bars. No other instructions or explanations are offered. Does that prove reality over virtual? The questions continue to pile up with little to no answers to dispel the confusion. There is nothing but the vague welcome of the unknown drifting through the air.
welcome to your new life....

So, I'm one of those people who doesn't really have a TMI gauge and overshares as a result. The state of my health has also become such a long running ~thing~ that I casually talk about all the time that I'm sure there are a lot of people who know something's wrong with me but are too polite to ask for the details. So, if you've ever wondered what the heck is going on with me or this is the first you're hearing about it and are interested, here are ( the details. )Anyway, that's what's up with my head, why I wear sunglasses all the time, and why I have headaches in weird places like my cheekbones.
So, it's been a while since I've used my journal to post anything other than ITPE letters or podfic announcement (and I even stopped crossposting those here in 2015). I've seen people talk about using Dreamwidth more since the tumblr ban on NSFW content was announced and while I'm not very convinced people will stay here, I have seen more activity and a few people friending me, so I thought I'd post to at least acknowledge that?
As someone who hasn't really used tumblr in years I'm not personally feeling the pain of the new announcement. In fact, I've kind of eagerly been looking forward to the next fannish platform, hoping I'd like it more than tumblr (and praying to anything that will listen that it will have some form of moderation controls, which tumblr sorely lacks). Unfortunately even with the tumblr news, with nothing standing by ready to take over as the new fandom home, I have a feeling this is going to be an LJ-like end where fandom slowly splinters in a bunch of directions for years before people settle in a couple different places, one of which will be the most successful at gathering new fans.
Anyway like I said: I'm skeptical that fandom will settle back on Dreamwidth, but while things are a little more hopping around here (though I know there have been people faithfully using it this whole time, I have been keeping track somewhat) I might use it as an excuse to write out some posts I've been thinking about that don't really work on twitter, which is where I live most often these days.
I'm making a bit more of an effort to leave comments too, so surprise, I guess, if I'm suddenly talking to your here (again?).
Rule #1 - Keep your fangs and claws to yourself: no snacking on the student body.
Rule #2 - No magic in the hallways.
Rule #3 - A full moon is no excuse for not having made your homework.

A great post outlining the history of previous fandom purge ON LJ and talking about where could/should/would fandom go next, what we'd want to build and what might be the pitfalls : https://greywash.dreamwidth.org/46038.html
ETA: another good linky post for people coming in or returning from Tumblr https://mdlbear.dreamwidth.org/1649182.html
(I dunno if I'm going to get back to posting very regularly, and I'm always been more of a lurker, but though I liked the ease of seeing pretty visuals on Tumblr, I always missed the threaded comments and meta discussion possibilities that DW has, so it's kinda good to be ... driven back, especially with DW becomine a bit livelier again).

|Tumblr's doing Strikethrough -- and everyone's back! HI!
I'm sorry about Tumblr's defection from its open and free policies. I hope all the artists find image hosting space, and fandom regroups.
It is good to see everyone posting on Dreamwidth. Denise has always done a great job meeting the needs of fandom, and I like to see her efforts supported. You're safe here. Welcome home.
